ABOUT GAIL RODNEY |
| Home |
Biography Gail Rodney was born in Westchester, Pennsylvania in 1946. She began to study art in her mid-thirties at the National Academy of Design School of Fine Arts in New York in a painting class that took students out on the city streets. She has been painting and drawing the Chappaquiddick and Martha's Vineyard Massachusetts landscape since the late 1970s, working first in watercolor and later in pastel and oil. A board member of the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association, she exhibits there annually as well as in New York City.
Artist’s Statement The process of making art is a meditation: I work best when I do not think about the outcome but concentrate on seeing and capturing. Through art I celebrate the experience of light falling on an object in a particular way. I have been most drawn to landscapes, water and domestic still lifes. Though I work predominantly in a realistic style, I believe the abstract elements of a picture are more important than subject matter. Drawing and painting deepen my appreciation and observation of nature, and I want to convey the pleasure of those observations in my work.
